Welcome to East Haven Veterinary Service, a small animal hospital in the village of East Haven Vermont. Our hospital is dedicated to treating our clients and their pets with compassion and caring and we value good communication. We are a general veterinary practice facility, offering medical and surgical care, working with other referral practices and hospitals for more extensive or specialty procedures. We are very interested in working with clients who may want to discuss or follow holistic and alternative options for their pet’s care and are comfortable integrating these complementary medical choices with traditional medical care.
Sally received her DVM from Kansas State University in 1988 and has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery ever since in Texas, Maryland and Cairo, Egypt, before setting in Vermont in 1994. She opened East Haven Veterinary Service, PC in September 2006 in the original village school house and loves being a small community veterinarian. Sally is very interested in a holistic approach to patient care and encourages clients who want to implement complementary medicine to discuss these treatment options for their pet’s care.
Sally’s husband, Ric Prescott, is a high school science and math teacher at East Burke School. Their home and barn are full of animals, including two dogs, an African Grey Parrot, a Shaft-tail Finch, 3 alpacas, an older ewe in hospice care and a small flock of free-range chickens. Sally enjoys gardening and playing the fiddle and long walks in the woods, especially winter snow shoe hikes!

Amanda is a 2006 graduate of Vermont Technical College with her Veterinary Technician Degree. She has been a part of East Haven Veterinary Service since its inception, through the remodeling phase of the building and the creation of the practice. Amanda is dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring in her all-encompassing role as the staff in our hospital.
Amanda shares a home with her partner, John Calamaio, a builder. They enjoy the company of three cats, two rescued dogs and have a huge aquarium of fresh water fish.
We are part of a group of seven small animal hospitals in our area that share an on-call rotation through the week, weekends and all holidays. The emergency coverage begins at 5:00pm on weekdays and is 24hour through the weekends/holidays to handle basic emergency questions and care. If your pet requires critical or intensive care and monitoring you may be referred to a facility capable of that level of medical care by the on-call veterinarian.
The end of a pet’s life with an owner and family is never easy and we strive to take the time in compassionate counseling for this and in the grievance process afterwards, knowing every situation is unique and different. We have our own, on-site crematory facility for cremation services and can supply specialty cremation urns if requested.
We are now offering and carrying two healthy and nutritious choices in dog and cat foods in the clinic. One is a line of dehydrated, whole-food cat and dog products from The Honest Kitchen for those clients that want to cook part or all of their pets’ food. The other is a line of raw foods produced and sold frozen by Darwin’s Natural Pet Products. Please ask us about these or our other supplements for your pet’s diet as, Hippocrates said, “Let your food be your medicine”. Hill’s Nutrition products including Prescription and Science Diet are available on our online store.
We are active with two cat rescue, shelter and adoption programs. One is the Brighton Cat Project serving the community of Brighton/Island Pond Vermont. The other is the Kingdom Animal Shelter, serving a large area around Saint Johnsbury Vermont. Both of these programs work hard to responsibly care for and place cats in loving homes in our communities.
We host a Scottish Dancing class every other Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm. It’s fun and good exercise and we’re always happy to have new dancers or learners join us!
As we believe whole foods and good nutrition is important for healthy pets, we also believe in the principle of regeneration and balance in our own diets. With that in mind, we share a delightful, healthy tea in our lobby with our clients and friends as well as have information about other whole foods and nutritional supplements that are great people as well as their pets!
